A summer without boredom: this was our summer
24 Aug 2026
The schools are back, the summer holidays are over. But we certainly didn’t get bored at SCHUNCK this summer!
A summer full of discovering and making
From 11 July to 23 August, there was plenty to do during our free Anti-Boredom Programme. At the Kloemeltafel (Get Creative Table), children could craft, build and experiment. With the Gnome Treasure Hunt, young detectives set off with Kik the gnome, while Stinkhond could join children at home as a special guest for new holiday adventures.
Stories in the great outdoors
There was plenty to enjoy outside too. During the Voorleespicknick in the Stadstuin, children enjoyed stories in the open air, while the Voorleescamping visited playgrounds throughout Heerlen.
Stories come to life
During the reading parties around the picture book Ludas en Bontje, children got creative themselves after the reading. At Book & Gym, they discovered how to bring a picture book to life through movement and dance. During Het Mooie Kinderboekenfeestje, they stepped into the world of Bob Popcorn, followed by a creative workshop.
Looking, making and discovering
There was plenty of choice for young makers too. At the puppet theatre show Allemaal Beestjes, the youngest children enjoyed a cheerful performance. During Kloemele met Architectuur, children designed their ideal city of the future. At Word vrienden met een boom, they learned with artist Gladys Zeevaarders to look at trees and nature in a new way.
For curious explorers
There was plenty to discover in the museum too. During interactive tours, children explored Ina van Zyl’s Where Are You From with their parents or grandparents and learned to look differently at images, details and shapes. And if they still found themselves getting a little bored, they could visit the Verveelbalie for a special mission tailored to their own level of boredom.
Enjoy Stinkhond and the gnome treasure hunt booklets a little longer
And because we haven’t had enough of them yet, part of the programme is simply carrying on! The Stinkhond programme and the gnome treasure hunt booklets were originally due to end after the summer holidays, but because they’re so much fun, they’ll be available a little longer. You can still borrow Stinkhond after the holidays, and the gnome treasure hunt booklets will also be available in the library for a little while longer.
