Emile Roemer's selection at the Art Depot

The new Art Depot not only provides more space for the art collection, but more importantly it ensures structural public access to the collection. The collection can be seen in changing thematic presentations in an interactive way.

The Art Depot consists of three different rooms, each with a different exhibition. Two rooms always make up a thematic exhibition that changes every six months. The first exhibition is themed 'looking', with art pieces from the collection that people really need to look at, that have surprises in them, or that catch you off guard. The third room has space for the exhibition curated by a guest. This changes four times a year. 

The first exhibition in this series of guests is curated by Emile Roemer. It also opened on 25 January.

"Limburg is a province working on top scientific innovation, on strengthening a powerful society with an eye for each other, on capitalizing on opportunities and solving challenges that our border location - in the heart of Europe - brings.
 
However, we can only stay on course if we keep looking carefully in our rear-view mirror. Limburg has an improbable wealth of history, traditions and idiosyncrasies from which we can learn a great deal.
 
My small retrospective depicts and perhaps connects these two worlds a bit, I think. It is not exclusively paintings by Limburg artists, that would be too easy, but rather works of art that remind me of all the good things this province has to offer. There is a half-timbered house on display but also almost graffiti-like 'tags', so familiar to this region. In choosing the works, I proceeded as intuitively as possible, asking myself what I felt when studying the artwork. Of course, I also tried to touch somewhere on my love of music.
