Final event Spatial Design ARO x CoLA x Zuid
Bureau Europa is hosting the final event of ARO × CoLA × ZUID, a program focused on design-based research, regenerative design practice, and regional identity. SCHUNCK is a partner in this program.
Where
Lumière Cinema, Bassin 88, Maastricht.
During this afternoon, projects and reflections from the ARO × CoLA × ZUID program will be presented. The initiatives, ranging from Super Circular Estate to biobased projects in Brabant and Limburg, demonstrate how landscape, heritage, and building culture form the foundation for socially sustainable area development.
The Spatial Design Action Program (ARO) collaborates within this trajectory with CoLA (Foundation for Coordination of Local Architecture Initiatives) and the southern architecture platforms.
Presentations
SCHUNCK will present a selection of projects from the program. Architect and entrepreneur Koen Savelkoul will explain the TERRA Tiny House project under the title “Bourgondisch Bouwen.” From his studio Ontheroad in Maastricht, Savelkoul combines architecture with interior design, art, and objects, with sustainability as a core principle.
TERRA Tiny House consists of ten compact, sustainable 12.5 m² houses in the Maas Valley nature reserve. The project invites visitors to reconsider space, nature, and habitation. The presentation is contextualized within the design-based research Demontabel Bouwen by architect and researcher Floris van der Kleij.
Architect Jules Becker will present, on behalf of TOPOS-ZUID, reflections on Parkstad and the Euregio. Mark Feron (Peutzhuis Foundation) will discuss the revitalization of post-war residential neighborhoods and the role of design-based research, including insights from bureau Urhahn.
Dreaming Out Loud: Koen Savelkoul
Koen Savelkoul’s work was previously featured at SCHUNCK in the exhibition Dreaming Out Loud: Koen Savelkoul. In February, a selection of his work will be on display in a temporary exhibition at the Bureau Europa entrance hall. Those who missed the SCHUNCK presentation can still view the works there until 1 March.
Koen Savelkoul received an honorable mention in the 2013 Euregio Architecture Prize for his graduation project Carte Blanche, an experimental project in South Limburg exploring the concept of Genius Loci.
