It’s time for Frictions Festival #13 – are you ready? This will be a special edition: this time, we’re inviting not one organisation, but a whole line-up. Tuyg, Studio Yeddi, IMP SYN, Collectief Op Blote Voeten and Bo Jacobs are taking the stage.
They were inspired by Ina van Zyl’s exhibition Where Are You From, which features many paintings of body parts. Their source of inspiration: the foot, a part of the human body that is perhaps more than any other both reviled and loved.
Expect a performance for voyeurs and an intense dance performance in the middle of the museum, professional foot readers, the tactile sensation of a barefoot trail, the chance to have professional glamour foot photos taken (non-glamorous is also fine) and a grand finale that will get everyone on their feet. Oh, and more!
Studio Yeddi
The Yeddi’s like to keep one particular piece of wisdom in mind: the journey is more important than the destination. As a four-person studio with a love for Heerlen, they work and play from Royal Studio’s on a wide range of projects. They move freely between film, art installations, expeditions, animation, puppet theatre and everything in between – or beyond.
With curious toes and shoes ready for a new barefoot adventure, they invite visitors to join them on their journey through Frictions Festival.
IMP SYN
IMP SYN is the sound of the south that pays no attention to genre boundaries. The duo, made up of Sven Vek and Jeffrey Hanssen, blends poetry and electronics into a raw, experimental emulsion of broken keyboards and unexpected sounds. Sven aptly described their sound during Popronde as “Spinvis for speed freaks”.
IMP SYN previously featured in the line-up for Frictions Festival #11 at SCHUNCK. They return for Frictions Festival #13, this time with an ecstatic dance session with IMP SYN: “feet off the floor”.
Collectief Op Blote Voeten
Collectief Op Blote Voeten creates performances from an artistic and social perspective. Raw, immersive and visual: these are the words that best describe the work. The collective deliberately moves between theatre, performance art and visual art, and therefore feels equally at home in studio theatre, museums, alternative off-spaces and public spaces.
The performances are created by Jos Minnaar and Job Griffijn, together with a changing line-up of guest makers. This changing composition reflects the collective’s own approach: developing their work through experimentation and questioning conventional theatre codes.
In their latest work, LUIK, Collectief Op Blote Voeten brings together the world of Ina van Zyl and their own: the performative and claustrophobic world of Blote Voeten meets Ina’s close-up framing. In this interactive performance, you are invited to peek, look and make the different parts of the body strange. You look at an object, a person, an identity made up of separate pieces. Do you see discomfort, stillness or suffocation, or do you recognise something of yourself when you open one of the little shutters?

Bo Jacobs
Bo Jacobs creates dance that unsettles. Raw, honest and built up to the smallest detail. Never moving beyond aesthetics, but cutting right through them. When you watch her work, you are not a distant spectator. You feel the discomfort, recognise something of yourself and are left with a question that doesn’t immediately let go.
She studied at Fontys Academy of the Arts (BA Contemporary Urban) and has danced with, among others, Nürnberg Ballett and La Biennale Danza Venezia. Her focus is now mainly on her own work. Pieces such as LIMP and Huidschrift have been presented at the Nederlandse Dansdagen and schrit_tmacher Festival, each carrying the same promise: this is dance that stays with you. At the museum, she presents two choreographies.
TUYG
What if your feet already know what lies ahead? TUYG takes you into the world of foot reading during FRICTIONS. Based on the structure of your feet, they predict your character, talents and future. For example, a big toe that is longer than the others may indicate natural leadership. A long second toe suggests someone who likes to be noticed, but has not quite realised it themselves yet.
But what does a noticeably broad forefoot mean? What does the position of your little toe say about the future course of your career? The insights from your personalised foot reading can be put into practice straight away. How can you become more assertive at work? Will you ever have a viable art practice? And why can’t your parents seem to let go of certain patterns?
Your feet tell a story. The only question is: do you dare to hear what they have to say? Take off your shoes and put your future in TUYG’s hands.
About Frictions Festival
During Frictions Festival, SCHUNCK invites makers and networks from Heerlen and beyond to ‘do their thing’. As community curators, they draw inspiration from the current exhibitions and put their own spin on them during a festival evening they organise in the Glaspaleis – different every time. One thing always stays the same: everyone is welcome and SCHUNCK Museum is open throughout the evening.
