In selecting a work from the SCHUNCK collection, Janna was guided by her curiosity about what could be discovered in the museum’s depot. She sees exploring this hidden world as a true adventure. During her search, she came across the original of a photograph from Retrieved, a book she owns and cherishes. The series by artist Charlotte Dumas portrays fifteen dogs, photographed ten years after the attacks of 11 September, having once taken part in the rescue efforts. Janna feels drawn to art in which concept, love for the subject, and dedication come together.

“Art in which the artist does not place themselves at the center, but focuses on what exists in their surroundings – in this case, dogs.”

Looking Further

The Art Depot consists of three spaces with racks, each featuring its own presentation. The presentation in the third space is curated four times a year by a guest curator. After earlier selections by Life Cipher, Driver’s Seat en Zorba Huisman, it is now Janna Navis’s turn.

Feeling inspired after seeing the artworks? Continue your discovery on the second floor of the library, where you’ll find our extensive collection of art books.
