Architecture Day 2016
On Sunday, 19 June 2016, SCHUNCK organized an inspiring bus trip to Krefeld, where several buildings by the famous architect Mies van der Rohe could be admired. This day trip was part of the exhibition MIES & the Legacy of Modernism and was held on the occasion of the Day of Architecture.
During the excursion, participants visited iconic buildings such as the Verseidag fabriek, designed by Mies van der Rohe, as well as the famous villas Haus Esters and Haus Lange. In addition, they also visited Haus Heusgen, a building whose connection to Mies van der Rohe’s influence is still being studied.
Program of the day
- 08:30 – Departure from Bekkerveld, Heerlen to Krefeld.
- 10:00 – 12:20 – Guided tour of the Verseidag factory, led by experts from RWTH Aachen.
- 12:30 – 13:45 – Lunch buffet at restaurant Nordbahnhof, located in the center of Krefeld.
- 14:00 – 16:15 – Visit to Haus Esters and Haus Lange, two architectural gems designed by Mies van der Rohe.
- 16:30 – 18:00 – Guided tour of Haus Heusgen, a villa strongly influenced by Mies van der Rohe.
- 18:00 – Return trip to Heerlen.
The excursion offered participants a unique opportunity to learn more about the influential style of Mies van der Rohe and his contributions to modernism. The cost of the day trip was €40,- per person, including transport, lunch, and guided tours.
