The ‘Dreaming Out Loud’ exhibition is an opportunity for them not only to talk about architectural dreams and visions, but also to take a look back at their own work, to collect and sort projects. This fall, Johann Eckartz is in the spotlight.

Parallel to the opening of the exhibition, Johann Eckartz and Wolfgang Zeh are founding a new architecture office in Cologne, a good moment to review things once more.

The drawings and models on display document their work - realised projects, design studies and competition entries - and provide a basis for thinking about the future of our fields work in a second step.

In the lecture on 8 January 2025, they would like to use individual projects to show how they want to approach the act of building in the future. How do we build? Who are we building for? Are we even allowed to build after all?

Johann Eckartz

Johann Eckartz studied architecture in Cologne and at RWTH Aachen University, where he completed his Master's degree in 2018 under the supervision of Prof Anne-Julchen Bernhardt and Prof Dr Carolin Stapenhorst. His master's thesis entitled ‘Creating Chorweiler’ was awarded the EAP Prize. After gaining experience in various architecture firms during his studies, he has been working in Prof. Wolfgang Zeh's office in Cologne since 2017 and will be managing this office together with Prof Zeh as a partner from autumn 2024.

In addition to his professional work in the architectural office, Johann Eckartz has taught at TH Cologne and the Bochum University of Applied Sciences. He has been a research assistant at the Bergische Universität Wuppertal at the chair of Prof Klaus Overmeyer since 2020. He is looking forward to accompanying the EAP Prize as a jury member and evaluating the work of the young architects.
