SYSTEMIC DESIGNS

In this lecture, David Rademacher will explore the potential of a systemic design approach within the fields of architecture and urban design. Fascinated by the interconnectedness of spatial scales, Rademacher de Vries Architects aim to create designs that mediate between city and landscape, and between object and plan.

The lecture will focus on the role of visualisation and mapping in several of the office’s projects, employed as key methodologies to identify opportunities for holistic spatial solutions and strategies. The setting for the lecture is the former ENCI factory in Maastricht. The transformation of this industrial site continues to influence the work of Rademacher de Vries Architects — and vice versa — making it a fitting location to explore themes of adaptive reuse, transformation, and systemic thinking in design.

ABOUT DAVID RADEMACHER

David Rademacher graduated in architecture from ETH Zurich in 2011. After earning his degree, he worked as a lecturer and researcher at the Chair of Professor Vogt for Landscape Architecture at ETH Zurich, where he investigated the transformation of the alpine landscape and its cultural and urban implications.

RADEMACHER DE VRIES ARCHITECTS

In 2014, he co-founded Rademacher de Vries Architects, an office engaged in multidisciplinary design and research at the intersection of architecture, urban planning, and landscape. Since then, he has taught at the Berlage Institute – Center for Advanced Studies in Architecture and Urban Design, as well as at the Academy of Architecture in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and Tilburg.
