Schunck 10.000ste Bezoeker Vanitas

10,000th visitor Andy Warhol: Vanitas

Today, SCHUNCK welcomed the 10,000th visitor to the successful exhibition Andy Warhol: Vanitas. This special milestone was celebrated with a festive moment.

Teacher Cindy Rasenberg from Windekind Primary School in Heerlen had the honor of being SCHUNCK’s 10,000th visitor, accompanied by her class 6a (students aged 9 and 10). Surprised and delighted, she accepted flowers and a copy of the exhibition book from SCHUNCK’s director, Kor Bonnema.

The class traveled by bus, an initiative by the Municipality of Heerlen, offering them a fun and engaging introduction to Andy Warhol’s iconic art. The students came well-prepared for the exhibition, having already learned about Warhol and his art in class. During the guided tour, they asked plenty of curious questions. “If you place them in front of just one painting, they immediately have all sorts of things to ask," said one of the guides. “Andy Warhol as a figure — a slightly eccentric man with his unique persona — really captures their imagination.”

Shadow Workshop

The workshop 'Freezing Time', based on Warhol’s Shadow Paintings featured in the exhibition, was also a big hit. During the workshop, the children created their own artworks on glitter paper, inspired by Warhol’s techniques and themes. Teacher Cindy called it an inspiring and accessible way to understand Warhol’s art. “The kids were incredibly creative and loved that they got to make something connected to the exhibition,” she said enthusiastically.

About the Exhibition

The Andy Warhol: Vanitas exhibition is presented by SCHUNCK Museum in collaboration with The Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh. Vanitas explores Warhol’s fascination with transience, spirituality, and astrology through more than 100 original works and objects, with skulls and self-portraits playing a prominent role.

SCHUNCK expects to welcome around 7,000 students from primary and secondary schools to the exhibition. These educational programs have been enthusiastically received by schools in the region, providing a unique and playful opportunity to engage with art.

The exhibition Andy Warhol: Vanitas is on view at SCHUNCK until 16 March 2025.
