Het Genootschap is swapping text for image (just this once)
The exhibition Dat die hond uitlaat recently opened in the Aad de Haas gallery, featuring a selection of works from the SCHUNCK collection. This time, the curators were from Het Genootschap, who - just this once - worked with images instead of text.
Each year, residents of Heerlen are given the opportunity to curate an exhibition from SCHUNCK’s municipal art collection. In doing so, they not only explore the artworks themselves, but also gain insight into what it takes to put together an exhibition. In 2025, the selection is in the hands of Het Belangrijk Genootschap Met Een Nog Onduidelijke en Steeds Wisselende Maar Immer Literaire Inhoud—or simply Het Genootschap (HBGMENOESWMILI to insiders). This informal talent group from PANDA, led by Merlijn Huntjens, supports young literary makers in finding their way in the literary world, both within and beyond Limburg.
After weeks of slogging, adjusting to working with images instead of text - and navigating countless critical questions and discussions - their unconventional take on the collection has been on view since 17 May in the Aad de Haas gallery at the Glaspaleis. Admission is free; the gallery is open Tuesday to Sunday.
