From 10 February to 21 April 2025, SCHUNCK presents 'The selection of Zorba Huisman' at the Art Depot of the Glaspaleis.

Theater, film, and documentary maker Zorba Huisman (1996, Heerlen) selected her favorite works from the SCHUNCK art collection. Her selection doesn’t revolve around an overarching theme but rather focuses on the works that personally resonate with her.

A Journey Through Art

The Art Depot at SCHUNCK consists of three museum-quality, climate-controlled rooms that feature rotating selections from the collection. SCHUNCK invites someone with a connection to Heerlen or Parkstad four times a year to make a personal selection from the collection, which is then displayed in one of these spaces. After previous editions, including one curated by Emile Roemer, it is now Zorba Huisman’s turn. "Just as my name—Zorba—reflects who I am, these works do the same. They introduce me to you, and I hope they brighten your day as they have mine."

"It has always been a small dream of mine to do this," Zorba says. "Like an explorer, I allowed myself to be surprised by all that I didn’t know. My selection isn’t based on a logical explanation but on the firm belief that each work has something I want to share with others. As a creator of theater, film, and documentaries, I realize how important it is to also be a spectator. These works pose the question: what is theatricality? What moves me? What makes something speak to me?"

Experiencing Art Interactively at the Art Depot

The Art Depot offers a unique, interactive way to experience art. The three rooms are equipped with electrically movable walls, allowing visitors to decide at the push of a button which artworks they want to see. This innovative system makes it possible to display three times as many works as in a traditional setting. It also provides the opportunity to rediscover the collection each time, based on themes such as color, subject, or artist.

The selection of Zorba Huisman is on view daily from 10 February to 21 April 2025 at the Art Depot of SCHUNCK Glaspaleis.
