About Passaasj Parkstad

From 21 April to 17 May 2026, SCHUNCK Museum presents Passaasj Parkstad: an exhibition featuring professional and non-professional artists, young creators, designers, self-taught artists, and hidden talents shown side by side.

40 years of the museum

In 2026, it will be forty years since SCHUNCK Museum (formerly the Stadsgalerij), Heerlen’s museum for modern and contemporary art, first opened its doors to the public. To celebrate this anniversary, SCHUNCK Museum presents Passaasj Parkstad for the first time.

Exhibition with space for 100 participants

With Passaasj Parkstad, SCHUNCK provides a platform for the rich and diverse creative force of the region. For forty years, Heerlen has been home to the museum as well as to countless artists from Heerlen, Parkstad, and Limburg. To emphasise this connection, the exhibition is centred around the theme ‘home’. Anyone who considers themselves an artist or designer was invited to express a personal interpretation of this theme and submit a work: What does home mean to you? Where do you return to? And what makes a place feel like home?

Participation or visit

From 20 January to 20 February 2026, artists and designers from Heerlen, Parkstad, and Limburg could submit one work on the theme of ‘home’. There were no restrictions in terms of age, education, or professional status; from self-taught creators to established artists, everyone was welcome to apply. From all submissions, an independent committee selects up to 100 works, which will be on view from 21 April to 17 May 2026 in the museum gallery of the iconic Glaspaleis.

In the week of 16 March 2026, the selection will be announced to participants by email.
