Visual artist Maarten Bel has invited the Buurtcamping (a local neighborhood camping event) from Heerlen-Noord to Frictions #12 with a camping theme! Last summer, Maarten camped at the Buurtcamping in Vrieheide. During this evening, memories will be revisited, in bingo style.
Campers get to meet SCHUNCK, and SCHUNCK gets to meet the campers. We’ll also look ahead to the next edition of the Buurtcamping. It may sound like an event for invitees only, but everyone is welcome - even if you didn’t camp last summer. It’s a perfect chance to soak up the camping atmosphere.
Win amazing prizes and enjoy the camping fun
Fantastic prizes are up for grabs: a tent setup voucher, a shortcut in the bbq line, and the Golden Tent Peg. The evening is all about camping fun. During and after the event, you’ll be inspired to start packing for Heëlesj Campeere (camping Heerlen style) in summer 2026. Don’t forget your toilet paper!
Follow-up to Chapter 1
Chapter 2 in the Frictions #12 title refers to Maarten’s presentation, Chapter 1, now on display in the store window. It started from a camping adventure at the Buurtcamping in Heerlen-Noord last August. Photos and memories return as large postcards: the Buurtcamping sends the Glaspaleis a message about how much fun it was, with an invitation for next year.
Maarten Bel (1987, Dordrecht) turns everyday life into art, often with a generous dose of humor. He invites people to actively participate, making art something you experience rather than just observe. You might know him from the VPRO program De Cadeaufabriek.
About Frictions Festival
During Frictions Festival, SCHUNCK invites makers and networks from Heerlen and beyond to “do their thing.” Acting as community curators, they draw inspiration from the current exhibitions and put their own spin on them during a festival evening at the Glaspaleis – each time different. What stays the same: everyone is welcome, and SCHUNCK Museum remains open all evening.
