Maarten Bel - Chapter 3: In conversation
Artist Maarten Bel (Dordrecht, 1987) returns to Heerlen-Noord this summer. Following his stay at the Buurtcamping at Sportpark de Varenbeuk last year, he is eager to return.

Through activities such as building pancake towers and making marshmallow roasting sticks, Maarten invited local residents to reflect on their neighbourhood and the stories it holds. Oh, and he terrorised everyone with his bagpipes.
From the Buurtcamping to the Glaspaleis
In the meantime, Maarten has continued his gradual transformation into an honorary Limburger. In the presentation Chapter 1: Greetings from Heerlen-Noord, memories of the Buurtcamping (neighbourhood campsite) found their way into the store window of the Glaspaleis through giant postcards filled with photographs and stories. Chapter 2: Together Again focused on bringing people together during a special camping edition of Frictions, where visitors played bingo, shared memories and looked ahead to another summer.
Chapter 3: In Conversation
The first weekend of August 2026 marks Chapter 3: In Conversation. Maarten’s ambition is to bring SCHUNCK to Heerlen-Noord in 2027 in the form of a “Glaspaleis tent”. This year, he is using the campsite as a workplace where he can talk to people and gather ideas. He will also head into the neighbourhood, quite literally camping in residents’ living rooms.
