Frictions #6 – Collecting Friends

On 13 June, ‘PAND and SCHUNCK presented a new edition of Frictions Festival, under the title “Collecting Friends”.

'PAND X SCHUNCK

This edition of Frictions was all about the theme Collecting Friends, where friends (m/f/x) of all backgrounds and perspectives were welcome. The programme was a fusion of two special groups of friends. On the one hand, SCHUNCK welcomed its old friends from ‘PAND, a non-profit organisation that inspires young people from the region and brings out their creativity. On the other hand, SCHUNCK brought a programme of performances, alongside the opening of two new exhibitions.

The programme of ‘PAND was curated by Jop Delheij and produced by Jonathan Widdershoven. With support from SCHUNCK, they presented:

  • The interactive performance Harvest Table by Pleun Moons, with real harvest.
  • The performance The Ladder by Ahmad Mallah and Rebecca Lillich/Krüger.
  • Airbag by Joep Caenen, an installation artwork in the hall of the Glaspaleis.
  • An improvisation set with music by Kim David Bots.
  • A projection featuring works by various artists, including a video by Louisa Vergozisi and photographs by Moos Peters.

Collecting friends

In addition, SCHUNCK collection artist and friend Fiona Lutjenhuis, known for her beautiful paintings in the staircase of the Glaspaleis, surprised visitors with a performance. A new collection exhibition as part of ‘Curator for a day’, curated by the Friends of SCHUNCK, also opened in the Aad de Haas gallery. In addition, an exhibition could be seen in the Heerlen town hall, curated by the youth group of SCHUNCK: Driver's Seat.

Koos Buster

There were more high profile visitors at Frictions, namely from Minister of Ceramic Affairs Koos Buster, who came by to make friends in Heerlen. He is working on a series of ceramic plates about Heerlen for the SCHUNCK collection and was joining us this evening for inspiration. Everyone was welcome to write in his proverbial book of friends and help him create his artwork!
