David Benjamin Bade
Artist David Bade and SCHUNCK have struck a lifelong collaboration. This means that Bade, throughout his lifetime, will return on a regular basis to Heerlen to draw a diversity of residents, in a diversity of settings and surroundings. The name of the project: David Bade tekent Heerlen onder de tafel (‘David Bade draws Heerlen’)
David Bade (b. Willemstad (Curaçao), 1970) is a Dutch sculptor, installation artist, painter and illustrator. From 1987 tot 1991, he took a teacher training course at Hogeschool Holland in Diemen and up until 1993 attended Ateliers ’63 in Haarlem. In 2006, together with Tirzo Martha, he established Instituto Buena Bista (IBB) in Curaçao, of which both are directors. The IBB arranges artist-in-residency programmes, organises a large number of cultural projects and offers training possibilities for local artists.
David Bade Meets…
With the support of the VriendenLoterij lottery, up until the end of 2022, SCHUNCK will be organising a series of special group sessions and portraits together with Bade. These portraits will be kept in Heerlen’s municipal collection, thus preserving the people of the city for perpetuity. After the roller-skating women of Pink Peril Roller Derby and the breakdancers of Heerlen F*cking City, it will be the turn of a new group this spring. Badeklasse: SCHUNCK Art School
Since 2020 David Bade, together with SCHUNCK, has been focusing his efforts on meeting and coaching creative talent. Badeklasse is a learning path, customised to match the level and the interests of participants. Participants will be immersed in the creative processes of the artist and will receive intensive coaching at personal meetings and in a series of workshops, assignments and evaluations.
