Curator Voor Een Keer 49

New exhibitions at SCHUNCK

From 13 June, you can see two new exhibitions at SCHUNCK: the new selection of the Vrienden van SCHUNCK as part of Curator for a day, and the new edition of Driver's Seat.

On Thursday evening 13 June, it is not only party time at SCHUNCK because of Frictions, but also because we are showing the new selections from the SCHUNCK collection. The new editions of the returning projects ‘Curator for a day’ and ‘Driver's Seat’ come together in two new exhibitions. They will both be on view for several months after the festive opening this evening.

Curator for a day

In Curator for a day, residents of Heerlen, with a little help from SCHUNCK, get to work with art themselves. In fact, they curate their own exhibition. This year it is the turn of the Vrienden van SCHUNCK to make an exhibition with work from the SCHUNCK collection. The ‘Vrienden’ (or: Friends) are a large group of enthusiastic members who support and want to promote culture and art in the broadest sense of the word. The focus is on architecture and visual arts, but there is also attention for music, dance & literature. For this edition of Curator for a day, the 12 participants do so using the SCHUNCK municipal collection. From 14 June, their exhibition Entrer can be seen in the Aad de Haas gallery of the Glaspaleis (from Tuesday to Sunday).

Driver's Seat

Driver's Seat is SCHUNCK's youth group, which explores the world of the museum through various activities. This time, they used the SCHUNCK collection as a basis to put together their own exhibition. Their selection was named ‘SeX WAR MOTHeR’, after Tim Ayres' work of the same name. It was chosen because this work perfectly reflects the underlying themes of their selection. As a visitor, you can make your voice heard by indicating for each artwork whether you think it fits the theme Sex, War, or Mother. You will be invited to debate your choices with them during the exhibition. After the opening on 13 June, you can see ‘SeX WAR MOTHeR’ until 31 December 2024 at the town hall, Geleenstraat 25 Heerlen. Free to visit on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Frictions

The two exhibitions will be opened during Frictions #6: Collecting Friends: a community-based festival, bringing together art, literature and emotions. During this sixth edition, everything revolves around the theme Collecting Friends, where friends (m/f/x) of all backgrounds and perspectives are welcome.
