On Saturday, 15 November, the winners of the 35th edition of the Euregional Architecture Prize (EAP) were announced in the SCHUNCK Glaspaleis in Heerlen. This year, the first prize was shared by Judith Baumeister and Frederike Hagen for their project Bunte Bauhütte and by Fabian Jäger for Framework for Occupation (RWTH Aachen).

Winners Euregional Architecture Prize 2025

Shared first prize: Bunte Bauhütte & Framework for Occupation

This year, for the first time, the jury chose to award a shared first prize (€1,875). It went to Judith Baumeister and Frederike Hagen for their project Bunte Bauhütte, and to Fabian Jäger for his project Framework for Occupation from RWTH Aachen.

The two winning projects impressed the jury with their precision and thorough development, in which research and design complemented each other in their own, very different ways. By splitting the prize, the jury wishes to emphasize that architects must be both extremely precise in the way we build and experimental and willing to take risks.

The jury appreciates Baumeister and Hagen’s careful approach, their use of local materials, and the playful implementation that results in a project strongly connected to the site.

In Jäger’s work, the jury praises the urgent theme and the design with a robust outer shell and flexible interior space, which demonstrates the potential of simple, affordable, and sustainable building systems.

Because of the shared first prize, no second prize was awarded this year.

Third prize: Ein Griff in den Baukasten – Umbauen auf den Marburger Lahnbergen

The third prize (€500) was awarded to Johannes Bergerfurth for his project Ein Griff in den Baukasten – Umbauen auf den Marburger Lahnbergen. A project offering a clear method and “toolbox” for dealing with post-war architectural heritage. The quality of the existing modular Marburg system was thoroughly documented and understood through drawings and modelling, forming a solid foundation for the proposed interventions.
